Prenatal & Postnatal

OMO Latch on Life Foundation promotes Prenatal and Postnatal education.

Prenatal

Prenatal care helps prevent complications during pregnancy, helping to keep both mother and the baby safe.

Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight and five times more likely to die than those born to mothers who do get care.

Having the right vaccination as part of health care through life is the key to help keep mother and baby safe.

Postnatal

The postnatal period is a critical phase in the lives of mothers and newborn babies. Most maternal and infant deaths occur during this time. Yet, this is the most neglected period for the provision of quality care. Making sure you and the baby are in good health.

  • Emergency Birth – what things to look out for
  • Support is very important from the doctors, nurses and family
  • Nutrition – such as breastfeeding
  • Having the right on-time child immunisation

As newborn immunity is only temporary, it is important to begin childhood immunisations when your baby is two months old. This applies to babies who are either premature or full-term.

WHO Guidelines on postnatal care have been recently updated based on all available evidence. The guidelines focus on postnatal care of mothers and newborn babies in resource-limited settings in low- and middle-income countries.
